Use Windows Update without Registering!
Do you have Windows 98 and want to use the Windows update feature, but don't want to hand over your personal information to Microsoft? Well, you can still use Windows update, and you don't have to give out your personal info! This can all be accomplished using a simple, but powerful registry tweak.
First off, open up your registry and navigate to the the key below:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion]
Now modify the existing string value named "regdone" to equal "1". If the value doesn't already exist, simply create a new string value named "regdone" and set it equal to "1". Now navigate to the following key to make sure it exists:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Welcome\RegWiz]
If its not there, then create it. Now restart your computer and try to use Windows Update. You should not be prompted to complete the registration process. |
